    Moriarty Library To Honor Teens
    The Moriarty Community Library will celebrate Teen Week by acknowledging the outstanding young people in the community.
    Nominations will be accepted at the Moriarty Community Library until Friday at 5 p.m.
    Nominations should be for a teen who has performed outstanding ongoing service to the community. Nominations should not be for school-related activities.
    Nominations must include name, address, phone, age of teen and reason for nomination. Nominations should be no longer than two pages. Please include your name and phone number. Nomination forms will also be available at the library.
    Awards will be announced Nov. 5. Three winners will be chosen and each will receive a savings bond or cash reward. All nominations will be displayed at the Moriarty Community Library.

    Trick or Treat Night Planned
    Los Vecinos Community Center will host its ninth annual Trick or Treat Night on Saturday from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
    Participants are needed to provide treats for the evening. In addition to a festive and safe Halloween venue for children and families, the event also is an opportunity for businesses and organizations to display their company logo on their trick-or-treat booth or table.
    For those unable to participate, candy donations are greatly appreciated. Los Vecinos gymnasium will open at 3 p.m. for set-up.
    This year's theme is "A Pumpkin Forest Candyland." Giant candy kisses, candy corns, pumpkin scarecrows and carved pumpkins atop straw bale walls will form the trail through the booths.
    All candy must be wrapped and trinkets must be child-safe. Awards will be given to the booth with the best pumpkin display.

    Craft, Rummage
    Sale Saturday
    The VFW Post 3370 ladies Auxiliary will host its annual craft and rummage sale Saturday.
    The day will include food and children's magic shows at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
    The post is at mile marker 22 on N.M. 41 south of Moriarty.

    'Thirst for Blood' In Sandia Park
    The East Mountain Community Theatre will present "Thirst for Blood," a murder mystery dinner theater, on Saturday at Vista Grande Community Center in Sandia Park.
    Doors will open at 6:45 p.m., and participants will meet their "primary suspects" at 7 p.m. The first course of the dinner will be served at 7:30.
    Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for students and seniors and $10 for children 12 and under. A group rate of $18 per person is available for groups of 10 or more.
    Seating is limited, and reservations are required for dinner. Costumes are optional. Call 281-4567 for reservations.
    Silk Batik Show By Artist Gary Fey
    An opening reception for a new show by silk batik artist Gary Fey will be held Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. at The Art Center of Mountainair.
    Costumes are encouraged.
    The show, titled "Dyeing to Resist," will run through Nov. 24 and will feature both new and old works. It is sponsored by the Manzano Mountain Art Council.
    Collectors of Fey's batiks include celebrities who wore his silk in haute couture fashions designed by Oscar De La Renta and Bill Blass in the mid-'80s. Linda Evans wore Fey's batik textiles in fashions designed by Nolan Miller for the TV series "Dynasty." Having shown his work nationally, Fey has private and corporate collectors nationwide.
    The art galleries of Mountainair— The Art Center, Cibola Arts gallery, Tierra Madre and the Out of Tyme Shoppe— will hold a gala joint show from Nov. 27 to Dec. 23 with more than 100 artists presenting fine art and crafts suitable for holiday gift-giving and decor at affordable prices.     Halloween Event At McIntosh Center
    The McIntosh Community Center will host a Halloween Carnival on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the center.
    The event will include games, food and a cake walk as well as a costume contest for all ages.
    The contest will start at 7 p.m. Costumes will be judged in three age categories: 6 and under, 7-12 and 13 and over.

    Flicks Video Store Grand Opening
    A grand opening for the new Flicks video store in Edgewood is scheduled for Saturday.
    The event will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Kids' carnival games, a SpongeBob jumper, raffles for prizes including a DVD player, refreshments and more are planned.
    The Edgewood Flicks store is at 2 Marietta Court. For more information call 286-9901.
    Halloween Event Safe for Children
    RV Sales in Moriarty is gearing up for its 11th annual Trick or Treat Trailer-to-Trailer event for Halloween.
    The event provides a safe trick-or-treat environment for East Mountains and Estancia Valley children. Approximately 40 RVs are circled at the RV Sales lot and the children visit each one to receive treats from an adult in costume.
    More than 1,500 children usually attend each year, and an estimated $3,500 in candy is given away. The event depends on the generosity of local residents and businesses for its success.
    Money donations allow the RV Sales staff to purchase more candy from a distributor at a discount. Donations can be brought to the RV Sales lot on old Route 66 or mailed to P.O. Box 1788, Moriarty, NM 87035. Sponsors will be acknowledged in a flier sent home with each child.
    Children who participate are also asked to bring a nonperishable food item as a donation to the Bethel Community Storehouse.
    Adults who wish to dress up and pass out candy on Halloween should call RV Sales at 832-2400 to get on the list.
    Cyber Café Hosts Halloween Event
    TechSmiths CyberLAN Café in Edgewood will host a Halloween event Sunday from 4 to 9 p.m.
    Refreshments, half-price gaming and other activities are planned. A costume contest will be held at 7:30 p.m.
    The cafe, located in Suite J at the John Brooks Shopping Center at Dinkle Road and N.M. 344, is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

    'Trunk or Treat' At N.M. 14 Church
    Children can trick-or-treat in a fun, safe environment at "Trunk or Treat."
    The event will be held Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the parking lot of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 12121 North N.M. 14 in Cedar Crest.
